CBC's Rosemary Barton Hits All the Wrong Notes on New Brunswick's Transgender Policy
The policy addresses a growing concern from parents over transgender ideology in schools that Barton either doesn't know or chooses to ignore
What kind of country or world are we living in when it becomes controversial and contentious for a government to amend a policy to require parental consent or involvement for something that concerns your child at school? Isn’t that what parent/teacher nights were made for?
It has been official policy, for some time, in virtually every Canadian province, though most people would scarcely know it, to keep parents in the dark if their children come out as trans to teachers and change their names and pronouns. Such policies have been specifically designed to keep parents out of the loop in the name of keeping ‘trans children’ safe. That it has been so universally achieved and so covertly is both astonishing and disturbing. But to secretly undermine the role of parents in this element of their child’s life is distressing and will, in the long run be harmful to children, families and ultimately society as a whole.
The provincial government in the Canadian province of New Brunswick had such a policy but has decided to amend it to require that parents must be informed and brought into the loop if their minor child (under 16) has made such a declaration at school. The move has sparked considerable controversy from the usual suspects, yet it doesn’t include informing parents if their child may be coming out as gay at school, it only applies if they are coming out as transgender. The change was prompted by growing concerns coming from parents who are only just learning that they are purposefully being left in the dark by schools, if their child wants to do something as life-altering as changing their sex or ‘gender’, the terms of which are both interchangeable, despite what far left transgender extremists claim.
Given that this ‘controversial’ change has come to light during PRIDE month, CBC’s Rosemary Barton decided to discuss the issue on her Sunday morning television show, Rosemary Barton Live. But instead of doing some real journalism, like exploring why is this even necessary, because how did it come about that governments and schools quietly and unilaterally imposed such a deranged policy, without consulting parents in the first place? But, instead of exploring the ideological mentality behind a policy designed to deliberately keep parents in the dark on such a vital and serious matter as their kid’s gender and changing their names and pronouns, Barton decided that grilling New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs on the matter would be a better idea.
You can watch the interview at this link, if you can bear it.
It was clear Barton had a hostile attitude towards the Premier from the outset. She first implied that Higgs had ‘used some language in his legislature that she felt, ‘frankly had not helped the conversation’ because, according to Barton, he talked about gender dysphoria becoming ‘popular and trendy,’ and said that ‘it is a situation that is growing because there is an acceptance that it is fine.’ This somehow led Barton to ask him if he thought those were appropriate comments, which then ultimately brought her to the conclusion that he must have a problem with gender dysphoria, and asked him if that was the case. When Higgs tried to qualify his position and explain how young children can be very impressionable when exposed to the idea of gender identity, and that parents need to be involved in such matters, she didn’t even bother to listen. Instead she rudely cut him off to opine if his personal views on the issue are influencing this policy decision because according to her profound journalistic accumen, ‘It sounds like they are Premier.’ As he attempted, again, to explain the rationale behind the policy Barton wasn’t really listening because she was waiting to bring down the big hammer. ‘You know some of your critics say this policy is… wait for it… TRANSPHOBIC!’
Sorry Rosie, your extreme leftist bias and blindess, comes through loud and clear in this interview. Someone stating the obvious—that transgenderism has, in fact, become trendy and popular, because of the increasing acceptance of it—does not translate into someone having a ‘problem with gender dysphoria.’ And introducing a policy change that allows parents to be aware of, and involved, when their children (yes, they are just children) are making such a vital life altering move, is not TRANSPHOBIC! It is to ensure that the interests of both the parent and the child are taken into account as they explore the entire matter together;and to detemine if they are truly transgender or have simply been heavily influenced by transgender ideology that is virtually eveywhere.
Not satisfied, Barton then she started harrassing Higgs about his willingness to call an election over the issue, so therefore surmising it must be a more contenious issue than he claims. Higgs, remained surprisingly calm in the siutation, maintaining he had no wish to have an election over the matter and that what is really required is to have an open dialogue on the subject that doesn’t result in name calling and insults. In that regard he called out Prime Minister Trudeau who decided to condemn Higgs as ‘a far right actor’ for inflicting “cruelty and isolation on vulnerable people“. Note that Trudeau said people, when he should be saying children, because it is the school children who are vulnerable, vulnerable to being subsumed by the extreme transgender ideology infecting their schools.
Barton, always willing to carry water and be beholding to the guy who pays her exorbitant six figure salary, funded by us taxpayers, jumped to Trudeau’s defence, saying he is only trying to protect children. But note again, he didn’t mention children in his attacks on Higgs. It is so unsettling to watch a reporter who has been doing a hatchet job on one politician for his views, jump to the defence of another politician when the one she has been attacking calls out said politican for his actions.
And that was quite a hatchet job Rosie. Frankly, I think Higgs was way too courteous given the ignorant manner in which you tried to throw him under the bus at every turn and then take great pains to defend Trudeau’s inflammatory remarks, which, by the way, have been criticized by other media. That was quite a lesson about what not to do as a journalist, Rosie, here’s maybe what you should have done.
Perhaps you might have tried to investigate why so many kids under sixteen are declaring a new sexual identity, or to see if there really are that many doing so, and whether they are truly transgender. How about looking into it to see if this could be because young kids, and tweens, and teens are being immersed and indoctrinated in an extreme gender ideology at school; and that they are far too young to understand and grasp what is being imposed on them—just as Higgs was trying to explain before you so rudely interrupted him. Maybe that exposure is causing kids to be confused and even anxious (because they don’t have enough anxiety after three years of COVID lockdowns). This might be resulting in a type of contagion—did you look into that before interviewing Premier Higgs?
Are you aware of this contagion as it has been so eloquently explained by Abigail Shrier, who unlike you Rosemary, is a real journalist. She decided to investigate the matter which resulted in her writing her book, Irreversable Damage - The Transgender Craze that is Seducing our Daughers.
Could this contagion be happening on an even wider and younger scale due the daily dose of transgender ideology that kids are getting at school? Did that thought even occur to you Rosemary?
Perhaps rather than grilling Higgs on why he has adopted this ‘controversial’ policy change, you should be interviewing Shrier, whose deep dive on this subject uncovered some very unsettling facts about transgender extremism and its impact on teen girls. That would have been much more interesting and informative and far less cringe worthy than your ‘gotcha’ interview with Higgs. Or perhaps you could have given voice to concerned parents who are just learning about a policy that was designed to ensure they are not informed of their childs ‘new’ identity at school. Perhaps you should be grilling school board chairmen or trustees or teachers as to their rationale for putting such a policy in place, when on virtually any other health issue, even to give a kid an Aspirin at school, they must first consult with a parent.
Now, you can’t really tread more lightly on changing this policy than Higgs has, and he’s just barely scratching the surface, because there is a lot more to look into. Like the types of books and lessons kids are getting on the subject. Then there are the policies around transgender students competing in sporting activities and even policies around bathrooms.
The fact that Higgs has so many people, like Trudeau and Barton, up in arms over this small policy change, just demonstates how far down the rabbit hole we have gone in this crazy ideology. But the pendulum may be swinging the other way, and the ones swinging it in the other direction also happen to be members of another one of Trudeau and Barton’s ‘protected’ classes—Muslim parents and their children. This could create quite a conundrum for Trudeau and company in determining whose rights trump who, and who they are going to throw under the bus?
In Calgary on June 16 hundreds and hundreds of Muslims gathered at Calgary City Hall to stage a protest against the teaching of extreme transgender ideology in schools—chanting the very simple statement—LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE. While the event was organized by Muslims, they were joined by Christians and other groups. Together they pledged solidarity in fighting this gender ideology in public schools.
In Ottawa, on June 9th, many parents turned out, a good number of whom were Muslims, for the Education over Indoctrination protest organized by Chris Elston, also known as
https://www.billboardchris.com/
and 17-year old student activist Josh Alexander, to call out the extreme elements of the PRIDE transgender movement aimed at children.
Rebel News covered the event; this is just a brief clip of their coverage. Note how none of the pro-trans activists would do interviews.

A Toronto elementary school is the first in the city to have girls and boys use the same multi-stall washrooms, and the resulting problems have reportedly included a boy exposing himself to a girl, kids peeking under the stall doors, stall doors being kicked in while girls are inside, and girls uncomfortable performing menstrual hygiene.
“I want my daughter to go to school in a safe environment,” said the father of the grade 1 girl who allegedly had a boy expose himself to her in the washroom. The father was one of 10 parents with children in Jean Lumb Public School who spoke with the Toronto Star about their concerns.
They all wished to remain anonymous out of fear they would be perceived as discriminatory for speaking up against washrooms meant to be inclusive to transgender students.
So there is a lot more going on in the transgender movement, and the pushback against it is gaining momentum—particularly as it pertains to schools spreading the ideology to kids as young as six. Rosemary Barton could do well to look into this as an investigative reporter rather than attacking the one politician who has been brave enough to stick his neck out on such a hot buttom issue. Higgs is willing to say parents have a right to know what is happening to their kids in school when it comes to transgenderism and it is not TRANSPHOBIC—it is parent and child centric. And he should be applauded rather than villified, by a biased journalist taking cheap shots at him, just like her political master Justin Trudeau.
Bravo!
