GiveSendGo Freedom Convoy Hacker Faces Charges in Texas
A little news to brighten the day of Freedom Convoy supporters
A good little nugget of news for those who haven’t come across it yet. The deranged Canadian hacker who so proudly, arrogantly and brazenly took credit for hacking the Freedom Convoy’s GiveSendGo site is facing criminal charges in Texas in connection with a 2021 cyber attack on the Texas Republican Party (GOP). Affiliated with a group of hackers called Anonymous, he is accused of defacing the Texas GOP website by replacing its banner with cartoon characters, a pornographic image and a music video and downloading a backup of the party’s web server, which contained personal identifying information, and shared it online. The data stolen from the Texas GOP were found on his electronic devices, authorities allege.
Remember this guy? Aubrey Cottle, of Oshawa, Ontario. In February of 2022, he went online to brag and gloat about hacking the GiveSendGo fundraising platform for the Freedom Convoy screaming he was glad he did it and would do it again. He gleefully doxxed (made public) the names of people who donated money to the convoy, thereby putting them in jeopardy of having their bank accounts seized by the Trudeau government.
Remember this video he posted gleefully bragging about what he’d done.
Well now he faces charges in the US of unlawfully transferring, possessing or using a a means of identification with the intent to commit, or aid or abet, or in connection with unlawful activity under state or federal law. If found guilty of these charges he could face up to five years in prison. Let’s hope they throw the book at him and give him the full five. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Unfortunately he has yet to face any charges for hacking the Freedom Convoy’s GiveSendGo site, despite an actual video of him proudly proclaiming what he’d done.
👏👏👏👏Way to go TEXAS! Please keep him.
Good riddance!
