Why Does Media Call All Conservative/ Populist Movements Far-Right?
Are policies for controlled borders, cheap clean energy, lower taxes and no wars 'far right' posits AfD candidate for German Chancellor Alice Weidel?
One has to wonder why the mainstream media is so quick to label any politician or political leader or political party, for that matter, that has even moderately conservative views on issues as far-right. They seldom, if ever, label political parties or leaders as far-left, when they often, in fact, hold some very radical leftist views on issues. This would include the American Democratic Party in its current form and both Canada’s Liberal and New Democratic Party (NDP) and the current Labour Party in the UK. All are very socialistic in their views, with the idea that big government is better government and better able to take care of ‘their people’. They all seem to believe in open borders, unchecked immigration, imposing ‘climate change’ policies that burden taxpayers and weaken the country’s economy and all seem to think that censoring speech is a growing necessity in order stop the spread of ‘hate speech’ and ‘disinformation and misinformation (defined by whom, is never clear).
They also maintain that they will fund all their government programs by taxing the rich but, yet, never manage to really do actually do that, but instead continue to shift the tax burden to an ever-shrinking middle-class. Then the very government responsible for the middle class’s decline, begins offering more and more government programs to ‘support’ and ‘subsidize’ them out of their suffering, which that very government caused to make people even more dependant on said government. Yet, mainstream media doesn’t see anything left wing about that. Or about their incomprehensible support for men who simply ‘identify ‘as women competing in women’s sports and getting into women’s prisons or for ‘gender affirming’ care for minors who are confused about their sexuality, thanks largely to the onslaught of left-wing media propaganda and educational programs on the subject.
And whenever it appears that another — ‘right-wing’ politician or political leader may rise power through open and fair elections, the knives come out from same said media. Donald Trump being the most prominent example — the bulk of the US mainstream media called him a Nazi for heaven’s sake! However, in Canada, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has found himself having to often do battle with left leaning reporters who can’t wait to get that ‘gotcha’ interview with him, on what they view as his ‘right wing’ or better yet, MAGA like ‘positions’ on issues. Poilievre, has, however, become very skilled at sticking handling these types of interviews. And does everyone remember when Georgia Maloni was elected the Prime Minister of Italy? She too was also labelled ‘far right’.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has long been labelled 'far-right’ by the European and Western media in general. Wikipedia for example describes the AfD as a far-right and right-wing populist political party. It goes on to say that the party is Eurosceptic, meaning it critical of and questions the need for the European Union (EU), and opposes immigration into Germany, and Muslim immigration in particular. The German judiciary has classified the party as a "suspected extremist" party given its strong anti-immigration focus. Yet the AfD, with an election just around the corner, is topping polls in eastern German states — those that were once behind the Iron Curtain of the Soviet Union.
Alice Weidel, co-chair of Alternative for Germany (AfD), has emerged as the candidate who will represent AfD in the upcoming German election on February 23rd, to possibly become the country’s next chancellor.
Weidel, who POLITICO has described as being viewed as the more moderate faction of the party which has positioned itself as ‘pro-traditional family’, has been co-head of the AfD since 2017. She does, however, stand out as she is an openly lesbian woman who is a parent of two children with her female partner.
She recently sat down for an interview with Bloomberg’s Oliver Crook to describe her key priorities should she become Chancellor. She kicks off the interview quickly correcting Crooks who had described the AfD as ‘far right’. She is polite but firm in describing her party as Libertarian Conservative in nature, with policies that she describes as sane and serious. She said this includes policies to bring down the cost of energy in Germany by reopening nuclear power plants which previous governments had powered down to go down the disastrous road of bowing to ‘green solar energy’ insanity. She is also for lowering taxes for the middle class, and introducing laws to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the country which has resulted in higher crimes rates, as well as putting more controls on legal immigration. She also questions the need for and legitimacy of the European Union, noting it is not a truly democratic organization, yet it continues to impose rules on European countries, and she is hopeful that US President-elect Donald Trump can help negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
If Weidel’s policies are the AfD’s policies, can anyone really consider them, or the party far-right? It is also interesting that, as noted earlier, that the area’s where Weidel and the AdD receive the highest support are from eastern German’s who spent decades living under the oppressive yoke of the Soviet Union, and seem to better understand the dangers of big government and highly controlling regimes — be they far-right or far-left.
And most recently Elon Musk, the man who made a considerable contribution to free speech in buying Twitter, now known as X, has made a storm of media headlines being roundly criticized for expressing his support for Weidel and the AfD in the upcoming German elections. But the media have had knives out for Musk since he decided to back Donald Trump in the US election.
Its funny Roxanne but I recently posted a twitter talking about exactly this. It seems the word "far right" has become kind of like the word "anti semetic". You use that word and immediately debate is stopped and the accused is immediately assumed to be in the wrong. The media and left wing establishment have cleverly manipulated people to think "far right" means something far worse than it often is. Yes there are extreme right wing groups was are dangerous but most parties or people labelled far right or often just "right wing".
I think we can all agree that the "far left" are actually more dangerous in the end than the so called "far right". Its the "far left" who want censorship, more authoritarian cental control, more debt, higher taxes, more immigration and on and on. Frankly almost all the problems we now have in the western world are because of "far left" policies. Yet these government parties are never labelled "far left". The Liberals in Canada are clearly "far left" as are the NDP.
Labelling a group far right makes them seem extreme and extreme is seen to be bad by those who don't like what is right.
As to why does this perhaps it is because 'mainsteam media' is an anagram of 'mime Mr Satan idea'!
